Easy Home Made Red Wine

Simple procedure to make pure grape wine at home. It will give you a minimum of 3 litres of wine.

Ingredients
Black Grapes – 1 kg
Sugar – 1 kg
Yeast – 10 grams
Whole wheat – 25 grams
Water – 1.75 liters

Grapes should be of good quality black grapes, seedless preferred. Some type of grapes are dark brown inside, choose the black one.

Materials Required
Ceramic jar
Jar should be of minimum 6 liters capacity, with lid. If ceramic not available, glass jar or plastic container also will do .
Wooden pestle or masher:
To smash the grapes.
Long wooden spoon
A spoon long enough to reach the bottom of the ceramic jar.

Most important thing to remember:

All the things should be clean and sterile. Otherwise, it will get easily contaminated with bacteria which may spoil the brew instead of allowing it to ferment. Once it is spoiled, nothing can be done, but to throw it away. All your effort will be in vain

Procedure

Clean the grapes: First remove the stem of the grapes and wash 3-4 times in water to remove all the dirt and chemical sediments. Drain the water and spread the grapes on a tray or on a clean cloth to allow it to dry off. Take only the good grapes.

Boil the water: Boil the water for at least 5 mins to make it as pure as possible. After boiling allow it to cool to room temperature.

Sterilize the Jar: Pour boiling water in the jar till the brim and leave it for 5 mins to sterilize the jar. If it is plastic, don’t put boiling water directly, allow it to cool for some time.

Sterilize masher and wooden spoon

Clean the wheat: Clean the wheat with water, rinse 3-4 times and dry it.

Part I

Put the grapes in the jar and smash it with the smasher. Not to juice the grapes, just to rupture it. Make sure all the grapes are ruptured. If it is difficult, put the grapes one by one and rupture it.

Add water, wheat, and yeast. Follow the procedure to make the yeast, take 100 ml. of lukewarm water, add yeast to it and mix it.

Add 500 gms of sugar (half the quantity, the other half will be used in the second part)

Mix all the contents with the wooden spoon. No need to dissolve the sugar, 3-4 stirs will be alright.

Close the jar with the lid and wrap the top with plastic or cloth, to make sure it is 100% airtight. Keep it in a dry and dark place.

Daily Duty

Next day to 21st day, don’t forget to do the following:

At a set time, first sterilize the wooden spoon, open the jar carefully. With the wooden spoon stir the contents 2-3 times, just to mix the contents evenly.

Close the jar, make it airtight and put it back in the same place. This should be repeated everyday for 21 days

Part II

On 22nd day:

Materials Required

Large and fine holed filter.

A container with a minimum of 5 liters capacity.

Sterilized gloves

Wooden spoon

Sterilize the container and spoon.

Procedure

Open the jar and slowly pour the contents into the container through the filter and squeeze out the grapes with gloved hand through the filter. Also scoop out any sediments left out in the ceramic jar.

Now pour back the contents from the container to the ceramic jar. Add 500 gms of sugar (remaining sugar in the 1st part) and stir with wooden spoon.

Close the jar, make it airtight and keep back in the same place.

Now we need to wait for another 21 days. The good thing is that no need to stir daily.

21 days is minimum and if it is kept longer, it tastes better and gets stronger.

Finally, Part III

After a total of 42 days (21+21), open the jar, gently take out the clear wine from the top and transfer to a sterilized glass bottle. Don’t shake the jar, sediments will be in the bottom and the clear wine on top.

Finally, after 42 days you will be having 3 liters of pure homemade red wine.
